How To Make Time For Yourself

How to Make Time for Yourself

When you run a side business or blog in addition to your full-time job, your schedule can fill up quickly.

It’s easy to get caught up in all of the things you business needs–running errands, shooting photography, writing, meeting with clients, etc. But if all of your free time is spent on your business, what time is left to spend on you?

I’ve got some tips on how to not only save time on your business ventures, but also prioritize alone time so you can make time for yourself.

Things I Need More, Less, and None Of

Things I Need More, Less, & None Of

A few weeks ago, I was scrolling through my Bloglovin’ feed and came across an interesting blog post. Brittany from The Nested Nomad shared a list of things she needs none, less, and more of in her life. The idea is to make progress in life through small changes.

She “stole” the idea from another blog, so I thought I’d “steal” the idea from her.

My Favorite Thing About Me

My Favorite Thing About Me

When I was in grade school and high school, I got picked on quite a bit. I wasn’t the prettiest girl in school, I didn’t live in the right neighborhood, and I was a bit too punk for all the preppy kids. I was the (co-)captain of my (junior varsity) cheerleading team, but I didn’t fit any of the stereotypes. I felt like I didn’t fit in.

I did a lot of growing up in college, and in the two years since I graduated. I became started identifying as a feminist, part of which means lifting other women up. But that’s not all it means. It means I’ve also got to be proud of  who I am.

With that in mind, I wanted to take a moment to recognize myself and my favorite thing about me.

How to Break Up with Toxic Friends

How to Break Up with Toxic Friends

Toxic friends: we’ve all had them. They’re the ones who spend most, if not all, of their time complaining and being negative. They always turn the conversations back to them and their problems. They bring us down.

If it’s true that we are the average of the people around us (spoiler: it is), then why do we bring ourselves down by surrounding ourselves with toxic friends?

It’s time to break up. It’s not you. It’s them. But where do you start?

What I Know to Be True

What I Know to Be True

A few weeks back, Carly from The College Prepster shared a post I really liked called What I Know to Be True.

The idea is to do these posts regularly so you can see how your truth has changed over time.

I’ve decided to take up this idea on And Possibly Dinosaurs. I don’t know how often I will do these, but I think it will be a fun little experiment.

Here’s what I know to be true.

I Am Pale

I Am Pale

I’ve got incredibly pale skin. I blame it on my Irish heritage.

I used to absolutely hate how pale I was. I once tried laying out in the sun covered in mayonnaise to get tan.

It worked, but holy cow that’s gross.

When I studied abroad in Ghana in the summer of 2011, I stayed with a host family. They’re wonderful and I’m still connected with all of them on social media.

The first night I moved in, I was sitting on the patio with my host parents. At one point, my host mom told me my skin was “so pale it’s almost blue” at that it “sparkles in the sunlight.”

[Insert Twilight joke here.]

I remembered chuckling at her comment, but at the same time I was a little annoyed. I didn’t like my pale skin. She could have it if she liked it so much… I wanted to be tan.

My Biggest Fear

My Biggest Fear

Fears are a necessary evil. Everyone has them, and hardly anyone enjoys them. But one thing is for certain: they can be great learning opportunities.

I’ve got a lot things I’m afraid of. Some are irrational, like my fear of bugs. Some are a little more realistic, like loneliness and rejection. But there’s only one I’m most afraid of.

My biggest fear has become popular around the internet lately — it’s the fear of missing out, or FOMO.

I’m always afraid missed opportunities. Internships, part-time jobs, partnerships, and volunteer opportunities — they always catch my eye. And because of my fear, I have a really hard time saying no.

But what if this leads to an awesome career path?

What if I learn how to design websites from this?

What if….?

#AwkwardArmSyndrome

Awkward Arm Syndrome

All over the internet, people post perfectly curated representations of what they want people to think their life is like.

I know I’m not the only person who’s noticed it.

It’s increasing FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), bringing down self-esteem, and just being all-around shitty.

Well I’m here to propose something.

What if, rather than always posting perfect pictures of ourselves, our pets, our food, we show real life?

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

I’ll start.

50 Ways to Be a Woman

50 Ways to Be a Woman

On Wednesday morning, I woke up, logged on Facebook, and found an article on Thought Catalog called 50 Ways to Be a Woman.

The advice ranges from “25. Cross your legs” to “50. Respect yourself.” (Why is respect yourself last?)

Well, I thought I’d share my own list of 50 Ways to Be a Woman.

So I guess that’s my personality now.
