How I’m Planning to Stay Entertained During Quarantine This Winter

November 28, 2020

It’s clear that this pandemic isn’t going anywhere soon. Yes, there are two very promising vaccines on the way, but the distribution will still take some time. Fauci says we’ll likely still be social distancing until Q3 or Q4 of 2021, so I’m making plans for a quarantined winter.

And for the record, this isn’t “another quarantine” for our household—we’ve pretty much been home since March, with a few small, pre-planned, and safe exceptions. So the biggest difference for us is that we won’t be spending time on our porch, in our backyard, or at our local park as much. But otherwise it will pretty much be same old, same old.

So after 8 months of quarantining, how are we planning to stay entertained this winter? Well I’ve got a few ideas.

How to Create Your Own 101 in 1001 List

November 21, 2020

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of 101 in 1001 lists. I’ve just started my third list, and it brings me so much joy.

101 in 1001 is a list of 101 things you want to accomplish in the next 1,001 days, or roughly 2.75 years. It’s longer than a new year’s resolution and shorter than a bucket list.

I started my first one back in 2015, and I’ve been creating a new list every time the previous one ends.

Over the years, I’ve gotten a few questions about how to make your own 101 in 1001 list. After all, 101 is a lot! And 1,001 days is quite a time commitment!

Don’t worry, friend. I’ve got you.

How to Use a Planner in the Midst of a Pandemic

I keep seeing memes about how the worst purchase of 2019 was a 2020 planner. And I get it. This year has hit the fan and it’s pretty much impossible to plan two days ahead, let alone weeks or months out.

But… that doesn’t mean your planner is worthless. In fact, my Passion Planner has been one of the things keeping me sane throughout this pandemic.

Quarantrends

May 13, 2020

It’s rare that the whole world experiences the same thing at once. And while we definitely aren’t all experiencing quarantine in the same ways, we’re all still going through a traumatic experience together.

While some people might find them irritating, I think the trends that have come out of quarantine—quarantrends, if you will—are such a cool display of humanity. They enable us to share something, even when we can’t be together.

While I’m willfully choosing not to participate in some quarantrends (here’s looking at you, TikTok), there are a bunch I’m partaking in!

How I’m Staying Sane

May 8, 2020

I don’t have to tell you that the world has gone to shit. It’s… a mess, and as someone who struggles with anxiety, the uncertainty has made my mental health go down the drain.

That being said, now that we’re almost two months in (Sean and I started social distancing back on March 11, when he was told to begin working from home), I’ve found little ways to keep myself sane. Not calm, necessarily, or even content, but at least sane.

My Morning Routine

January 17, 2020

A year ago, I shared an update on my morning routine, and at the time wanted to make it a 6-month series. And I had every intention to! But last July was a lot, so it just never happened. I’m kicking it back off in January in hopes it sticks this time around!

My routine has shifted a lot over the past year… for better or worse.

About 6 months ago, I shared my morning routine and how it had changed after moving from Cincinnati to Kalamazoo. And over the last 6 months, I’ve tweaked it even more, so I thought it would be fun to do a quick update! I might even make this a regular 6 month series!

My Morning Routine

Thanks to mine and Sean’s recent move back to Michigan, I’ve had the opportunity to switch up my morning routine. I used to have inconsistent mornings, because I worked in the office certain days and at home other days. Now I consistently work from home every day of the week, so I’ve been able to build the morning routine I really want.

Before the move, I heard on the podcast Happier that the best time to start a new habit is right before a big life change, like a move. Hearing this while in the midst of moving was really helpful, because it prompted me to really ask myself what habits I want to change, and then figure out how to implement them in my new life. That’s how I came up with this morning routine.

I Am More Than My Mental Illness

I Am More Than My Mental Illness

Mental illness has a crazy stigma associated with it. People don’t like talking about it, which makes it difficult to get help.

I’ve struggled with mental illness for a long time. I wasn’t willing to talk about it, though, because we couldn’t find a solution until just a few months ago.

How I Reset at the End of a Long Day

We all know some days seem to go on much longer than others. It’s an unfortunate truth of being human. And typically, those days aren’t good days.

So, how do you recover from a long day? I’ve got a few ideas.

So I guess that’s my personality now.
