Work in Progress: My Incredibly Unruly Herb Garden

October 19, 2023

It’s time for a new series on the blog! I’m calling it Work in Progress, where I share things I’m learning in the messy middle, before I’ve figured out what the hell I’m actually doing.

So much of blogging has become shiny before-and-afters, and it’s so important to show all the in-betweens, when we try things and they don’t work. Or even if they do work, but we’re not sure if we’re doing it right at all.

That’s the idea behind Work in Progress—showing the human side to the before and after. And first up is my incredibly unruly herb garden.

Well hey there! It’s been just over six months since I’ve blogged regularly, and I’ve really been missing it. A lot has changed since my last update!

Laundry Room Renovations!

April 13, 2021

Our laundry room is in our semi-finished basement and isn’t super glamorous—but this is one of the room updates I’m most excited about! Ever since we’ve moved in, I’ve wanted to add cabinets and a countertop to our laundry room, and it finally happened.

I do most of our laundry, and the room was… terrible. It was empty except for an old washer and dryer, our water softener, and a concrete utility sink on rusted metal legs. Oh, and the previous owners left us an old IKEA table that… Sean promptly stole for the workshop. It needed some help.

Cue almost three years later and my wish came true!

Lounging in the Sunroom

It’s no surprise that the sunroom is one of my favorite rooms in our house. We’ve gone through quite a few iterations in the three years we’ve lived in our house, and the current one really feels… right.

It’s been Sean’s quarantine home office since last May, and we love it as a home office. It just took us a while to find the right configuration for it.

New Living Room Furniture

February 16, 2021

At the tail end of 2020, Sean and I made a big purchase that really transformed our living room—we got a new couch! I’ve been wanting a brown leather couch for years, and we finally made the investment to celebrate refinancing our house.

Since so much of the past year has been spent in our house, we’ve really worked on making it feel like a home (which was ironically my word of the year for 2020…), and I’m so excited to show off all that we’ve done in our living room since the last update.

New Porch Furniture & Flooring

Last summer, redoing the porch was the bane of our existence. And while we knew it would be worth it, we didn’t realize how worth it the project would be.

Now that we’ve been stuck at home for more than five months, it’s been amazing to have a nice, relaxing space to spend time in.

New Furniture in the Sunroom

July 30, 2020

A lot has happened in the sunroom since my latest update! Most notably, it’s no longer a collection of leftover furniture that didn’t really have a place in the house.

Home Tour: The Guest Bedroom

July 23, 2020

I’m excited to share a tour of our guest bedroom today! This was originally our bedroom when we moved in, but then we found a fireplace in the other bedroom and, well… the rest is history.

For a while this room was basically our “junk room.” We wanted it to be a home gym, but to be honest it’s weird thinking about having a home gym on the second floor. We had our pull-out couch in there for guests, but other than that, we couldn’t really commit to anything.

Home Tour: An Update on the Dining Room

July 11, 2020

It’s time for another room tour! I realized recently that I haven’t done an update on our dining room since we moved in June of 2018, so it was time! It’s one of the first rooms we updated, so it’s funny to me that I haven’t done a tour yet.

Let’s start with a quick before and after.

Home Tour: An Update on the Sunroom

April 16, 2020

Since everyone is stuck at home, I figure it’s a great time for another home tour!

The sunroom in our house was one of the big selling points when we were bought it. It’s right off the living room and has 8 windows, 6 of which open to the outside! (The other two open to the porch.)

Home Tour: An Update on the Porch

February 26, 2020

Aah, the unintended project. We knew our back porch needed some work, but it was ~fine~, so we figured we’d get around to it eventually. And then… last summer happened.

Home Tour: An Update on the Upstairs Bathroom

I’m so excited to share another updated room tour today! I’m going to be honest, I didn’t expect one of the first room tours to be the upstairs bathroom.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good space… we just haven’t done that much work to it, and it feels like it needs a bit of a renovation.

Basically, the room is… fine.

But over the last year and a half, we’ve really made some functional and visual improvements that I’m very happy with!

So I guess that’s my personality now.
