I’m excited to share a tour of our guest bedroom today! This was originally our bedroom when we moved in, but then we found a fireplace in the other bedroom and, well… the rest is history.
For a while this room was basically our “junk room.” We wanted it to be a home gym, but to be honest it’s weird thinking about having a home gym on the second floor. We had our pull-out couch in there for guests, but other than that, we couldn’t really commit to anything.
Then one day I realized I really wanted to commit to having a guest room. I love having people over and being a good host, and I hadn’t consciously realized how much it bothered me that the best we could offer friends and family was a pull-out couch. No offense to anyone who has that! Often times that’s all you can do, and it works perfectly. But we had a whole room that we weren’t using, which felt like a waste.
Earlier this year we got ourselves a new bedroom set, so we moved ours into the spare bedroom—finally turning it into a functional guest bedroom!
The irony, of course, is that we can’t actually have guests over right now, but I’m excited to have a space for them when we’re able to again.
In the grand scheme of things, we really just added furniture, removed the curtains, and added blinds. But it doesn’t feel like it, because this room has changed a lot over the two years we’ve lived here.
I definitely needs a little more personality, but I’m so excited about the functionality of the space now!
Stanley likes it, too. He considers it his room.

The guest bedroom has a closet (the door in the middle above), as well as the access to the attic (the door on the left). We hardly use the attic, so even if we have guests for a week, it won’t be an issue that we can’t access it!
Normally I’d link to the sources but basically everything is so old it’s now unavailable! The only exceptions are the end tables, mirror, armchair, and stool.
Things We’d Still Like to Do in the Guest Bedroom:
- Rehab the windows
- Blackout curtains
- Maybe paint the walls to match the rest of the house?
- Art
- Declutter the closet
- Refinish the floors
- Rug
- Add something like a dresser or table for guests to put clothes on
- New ceiling fan / lighting solution
