It’s time for my next 6-month check-in on my morning routine! I love seeing how it evolves over the years, and it has definitely evolved since January.
6:30 AM – Snooze 3 Times
Let’s be honest, my wake up situation is less than ideal. We use Alexa for our alarm, so it’s far too easy to say “Alexa, snooze.” Before I know it, it’s 6:57 and Sean and I are begrudgingly rolling out of bed.
7 AM – Make Coffee, Empty the Dishwasher, & Tidy the Kitchen
Once I get up and get changed for the day, I head downstairs to make coffee for both of us. Depending on the weather for the day, I’ll also open up all of the blinds and windows downstairs to let the fresh air in! These days the mid-80s is our line: anything hotter than about 84 is too hot for opening the windows, but we’re totally happy leaving them open if it’s going to be 83 and sunny all day.
I’ll also use the opportunity to tidy up the kitchen and empty the dishwasher. We typically fill the dishwasher at night and run it so everything is clean, dry, and cool in the morning. I love cleaning the kitchen in the morning because it’s so nice to come downstairs at the end of a long workday to a clean kitchen.
7:30 AM – Coffee with Sean on the Porch
Once Sean is ready for the day, we’ll have coffee together on our porch. It’s wonderful. Even if we plan to turn the AC on during the day, we will sit on the porch with the windows open in the morning because it’s almost always cool enough that we don’t feel gross. We talk about our plans for the day, what we’ll do for lunch, and if there’s anything in particular we want to do in the evening.
8:00 AM – Head Upstairs for Work
I might not start working right at 8—this is when I’ll also wash my face, put makeup on and do my hair (if I decide I want to), and maybe play some Animal Crossing or get my planners set up for the day. The latest I start working is 8:30.
Honestly, while my morning routine is far from perfect, I don’t hate it. It’s a nice slow start to the morning, and I get to spend time with Sean enjoying our porch. What’s not to like?
