8 Tips for Choosing a Super Unique Blog Domain Name

Choosing a domain name is one of the most important things you can do! At the same time, it is difficult to find a unique and eye-catching domain name that isn’t already taken, especially if the subject matter of your blog is popular.

Finding a domain name for your blog that is both memorable and available creates a little bit of a challenge, but don’t worry! It can be a fun challenge if you get creative. Here are some tips to get you started.

Women in Technology: Why It Matters

May 16, 2017

Representation is incredibly important, but it's not really present in the technology industry. So, why aren't there many women in technology, and how are women working to change that? I'm glad you asked!

Hey everyone! Excited to introduce the newest guest post at And Possibly Dinosaurs. Kate Harveston is here to talk about women in technology, and why representation matters! Enjoy!

Walk into a Silicon Valley office building, or even browse the company’s website to learn about its staff, and you’ll probably wonder where all the women are. The tech industry has long been criticized for having a gender imbalance, but there’s hope!

Many dedicated people and organizations are working to improve perceptions and pave the way for women who want to shine in tech jobs. These efforts totally matter — here’s why.

Guest Post: What’s the Deal with Gender Neutral Names?

What's the Deal with Gender Neutral Names?

by Randi of Randi with an i

Hey, I’m Randi with an “i” and I’m not a guy.

As someone who has been #blessed with a gender neutral name, I’ve grown up having a way different perspective of – well – your name.

When I worked my last job as a reporter, I would frequently receive emails addressed to “Mr. Shaffer.” I would answer my phone line as “Randi Shaffer” and was never taken aback when the voice on the other end of the line quipped a surprised “Oh, I thought you would be a man!”

I actually wrote a column about my experience having a gender neutral name for my student newspaper in college.

The basis for that column was how often people mistook me for a man. But things have changed so much in the last half-decade alone, since I first wrote that piece.

Let’s back up for a minute.

Which means she’s able to do more blog writing again! 🙌 And how lucky am I that she gets to end her hiatus with a guest post on And Possibly Dinosaurs?! She’s going to share the different NHL Awards and how the winners are decided. They’ll be given out tonight, so be sure to tune in to find out the winners!

Take it away, Ashley!

Guest Post: NHL Special Events

I’m so excited to introduce the newest guest blogger on And Possibly Dinosaurs: Ashley from Under the Ash Tree!

She lives in NYC and works at the NHL (#dreamjob), so I invited her to write about the fun NHL special events she gets to go to.

I seriously cannot contain my jealousy of her life.

This weekend is Hockey Weekend Across America, so what better of a time to talk about hockey? (Plus, did you hear the Miracle on Ice team is reuniting in Lake Placid on Sunday?)

Last-Minute Valentine’s Dinner

February 13, 2015

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day.

You forgot, didn’t you?

Yeah, it’s too late to make reservations, plus you’d just be paying extra for the holiday and it’s not going to be that great because the restaurant will be jam-packed and overbooked.

What are you going to do?

Hey, stop freaking out. This is where I come in. I’ve got an easy dinner and dessert recipe for you that you can make TODAY and not freak out tomorrow when you’re running around trying to find a decent bouquet of flowers that doesn’t look like it’s been trampled.

Both of these recipes are fantastic and should only take a couple hours overall. The Chicken Ragù with Bacon is fantastic and even better the next day. The Muddy Buddy pie is so easy and you don’t even have to turn on the oven. You can do this, I promise.

How to Be a Feminist: Be a Good Friend

Hey everyone! It’s Caitlin here. I’m excited to announce that Angela Morales is going to be a recurring contributor! She wrote her first post for And Possibly Dinosaurs back in September, and now she’ll be blogging more regularly! This first one is about how to be a feminist by being a good friend. Look for her name and bio on each of her posts!

Sounds really easy, right? Be a good friend.

It can’t be that hard… right?

WELL.

It’s a lot harder than people think, and friendship is one of those things you don’t really know you’re good at until someone screams “YOU’RE A GOOD FRIEND!” at you.

The other night, my coworker and I were texting each other about her post in a Facebook group we’re both in. It was about waiting for the other shoe to drop when you realize that you’re really happy and that things have fallen into place for a while.

Why We Need to Stop Skinny Shaming

Why We Need to Stop Skinny Shaming

I’m excited to introduce one of my best friends Randi! We’re self-proclaimed twins who have known each other for the past five years. We lived together in college, and I can already tell you she will be in my wedding. Whenever that is.

Randi wrote an awesome piece on skinny shaming for today’s edition of Feminist Friday. It goes hand-in-hand with Angela’s post on shopping for plus-sized clothing. The two aren’t meant to contradict or challenge each other; instead, they offer two sides to the same coin. We, as women, must not shame each other for our different sizes. We are all different, and that’s what makes us beautiful. (Backstreet Boys reference for the win.)

Enjoy!

Breaking into the Male-Dominated World of Car Buying

I’m excited to share my first-ever guest post on And Possibly Dinosaurs today!

I went to college with Kelsey, and we bonded over our mutual love of journalism, reading, comic books, and crafting. While we now live on opposite sides of the state, we still chat often.

She recently told me about the frustrations she was having while trying to buy a car, which I thought it would be a great topic for Feminist Friday. Enjoy!

So I guess that’s my personality now.
