Sunday Scratches is where I share the little stuff that has happened throughout the week. In hockey, “scratches” are people who are on the roster but do not play in the game. On the blog, “scratches” are the things that have happened to me throughout the week that aren’t necessarily big enough to be an entire post.

Happy Sunday! Here are the scratches for the week.
Sean and I hosted our first Friendsgiving with our college friends last weekend—it was such a blast! We went out to brunch at Food Dance, made candles at Kalamazoo Candle Company, hit up LFG Gaming Bar while we waited for our candles to harden, and then made a whole Thanksgiving meal, turkey included! I’m definitely hoping this becomes an annual tradition.
As a side note, my hidden talent is naming candles. I need to figure out how to make money from that… This time around I made A Candle Has No Name (sea salt, driftwood, and obsidian) and LL Bean Catalog (flannel and autumn leaves).
It was a short workweek thanks to the holiday, but now that I work from home, those are actually my favorite days to work. Since I’m no longer used to a busy office environment, I don’t feel the loneliness I used to feel when I was the only one in the office. Plus, no one is around to approve things, so I get to spend the time working on my own projects that always fall lower on the priority list!
On Monday evening, Sean and I went to Menards to get a full-sized Christmas tree! We’ve had a 4′ tree for years (I think this is year 6?) that’s fine, but short and kinda scraggly. And not scraggly in the intentional, Charlie Brown Christmas Tree way. Just…. bad scraggly. We finally upgraded because we had $150 in vouchers from Menards 11% rebates while working on our porch, so we got the tree, skirt, and lights for free!
Yes, I put up my Christmas tree before Thanksgiving, and no, I don’t feel bad about it in the slightest. Do what makes you happy.
We visited my parents for Thanksgiving, which was a really nice, chill afternoon! We watched the Lions lose (a Thanksgiving tradition!) and I helped my mom put together the family Christmas card.
I didn’t do too much shopping this weekend, but I did order two coats from J. Crew! I’ve been eyeing this one for a while, and finally ordered a replacement trench (which is on my 101 in 1001 list!). I ordered two sizes and they were both two big, but I was still able to order smaller sizes before the 50% discount went away. Not too bad!
This weekend we continued our holiday decorating with our stockings and some festive touches around the house! I put fairy lights around a fake plant on the mantel, put ornaments on the tree, and found a few other Christmas things in storage. Oh, and our scraggly 4′ artificial tree is now in the bedroom by our fireplace, which is actually the perfect spot for it!
Sean and I saw Knives Out last night and loved it. I was worried it would be bloody (I don’t do well with bloody movies), and it wasn’t! Once I realized it was rated PG13 I felt way better about it. 10/10 would recommend.
