Sunday Scratches is where I share the little stuff that has happened throughout the week. In hockey, “scratches” are people who are on the roster but do not play in the game. On the blog, “scratches” are the things that have happened to me throughout the week that aren’t necessarily big enough to be an entire post.

Happy Sunday! Here are the scratches from the week.
The Week in Review
I took the week off of blogging to recover from my trip to Dayton last week. It was really nice to be able to sit around and do nothing for a while!
I spent quite a bit of time reading, which I love. I started and finished Rose Under Fire, the sister novel to Code Name Verity. It was so good but so depressing at the same time. I just realized there’s a prequel to Code Name Verity, so I requested a copy from my library and will hopefully start it soon!
In the mean time, I started another book I’ve been interested in for a while: How to Lose Friends and Alienate People by Toby Young. I’ve only read the prologue so far but I’m excited to get into it! Once I finish it, I’ll have crossed off my first personal goal for the month of August!
Speaking of goals, I started working on my ebook! I’ve picked a topic, outlined it, and have half of the cover done. But I’m a bit nervous that I was overly ambitious when I set a goal of starting and finishing it in a month. I could probably do it, but I might burn out before it’s done. So we’ll see if I decide to stretch out that goal a little longer.
This was a big week for adulting! We got our chimney cleaned, I found a doctor in Kalamazoo and had my first appointment there (she’s wonderful! too bad I almost passed out getting my blood drawn…), and we finally got a robot vacuum! It’s a Deebot, not a Roomba, and we’re taking suggestions for a name.
We also decided to try out the AMC Stubs A-List program! It’s $20 per month per person, and you can see up to 3 movies per week. It’s like MoviePass but less volatile. We joined on Thursday and have already seen our first movie: Christopher Robin! We went last night and it was so cute. I doubt I would have seen it without the A-List program, so I’m really excited we joined.
On Friday we got together with a group of our friends from college. It was so nice to hang out with them! We grilled, went to a brewery, and made plans for staying in a yurt this fall. Yes, it’s really happening.

YES. How your side hustle can make you better at your career. Because not everyone has to want to go full-time with their business.
A little self-care inspo.
Interviewing? Here’s how to answer some difficult questions.
I’m always trying to figure out how to waste less, so I appreciated this post on food waste.
I love these practical tips on how to stand out at work.
Yes yes yes yes yes. Mentor other women.
I need to keep this in mind as I work on my ebook.
Also, this: how to tackle the “I’m over it” mentality when working toward a goal.
This was a really eye-opening perspective: Nothing you own is ever really gone; it will continue to exist… somewhere.
