Life is stressful right now. Everyone is feeling it. The world is basically falling apart, and pretty much the only thing we can do is… nothing.
And isn’t that one of the most frustrating parts about it? One of the best remedies for anxiety is action, but right now the only action we should be taking is staying home, which… doesn’t feel like an action at all.
But the other day I had an epiphany: there is something we can do.
Until quarantine is over, I’m challenging you (if you’re financially able—times are tough right now!) to only spend money at local or small businesses when grocery shopping, getting takeout, and buying things for yourself.
And if you’re watching your spending, use your voice to help small businesses! Promote them on social media and talk about them with your friends.
Taco Bell will be fine after the pandemic is over. Target doesn’t need our help. But our favorite small, local businesses do.
I have a huge nail polish addiction, but I won’t be getting any new shades during quarantine. Instead, I’m finally investing in the leggings I want from the small, women-run business I’ve been following for years. (They have pockets! Pockets!)
And while I could use my Amazon digital credit to get some the Kindle editions of my new favorite books, I instead ordered the hard copies from my local indie bookstore.
Sometimes Sean and I are really craving Taco Bell…. but instead, we order delivery from Taco Bob’s. (And tip generously. Thank you delivery workers!)
If you’re in a similar place of privilege, I encourage you to join me in this challenge! I’m really excited to find new places, so please leave a link to your favorite small business in the comments so I can check them out. ♥️
