Today marks Day 30 of the #30DaysNoShopping Challenge.
And if you follow me on Instagram, you know I failed.
I was going strong until my friend Kenzie invited me to the mall on Day 20.
I had to get an outfit for my work Christmas party, which is on December 6. Normally I would have been able to wait, but the two stores we stopped at (H&M and Forever 21) have such quick turn-around with their selections that I didn’t want to risk it.
At least that’s what I’m telling myself.
However, I’ve already worn a few of the pieces quite a bit in just a week, which tells me they were worthwhile.
So, what did I buy?
I don’t want to post pictures because some of the pieces will be for the Christmas party, but here’s a wrap-up:
Two dresses from H&M: $34.83
Shirt and shawl from Forever 21: $37.74
Sweater and purse from H&M: $38.05
Grand Total: $110.62
This reminds me of a saying I’ve heard a few times: We go bankrupt one $30 purchase at a time.
So I failed this #30DaysNoShopping Challenge, but I’ll be starting it again in January. Hopefully it will go much more smoothly the second time around.
No shopping challenge is touch…specially if it’s on one’s mind. My advice for January is avoid the stores. They make is so pretty and inviting…how could you not shop? Oh no! Describing that is making me curious what’s in the malls. Haven’t been there in awhile. Perhaps I should do this no shopping challenge too! 🙂
That’s exactly my plan! I was fine until I walked into the mall. 🙂 And we should do the no shopping challenge together in January!
I don’t think I could survive a no shopping challenge, especially during the holiday’s and Forever 21 and H&M do have crazy quick turn arounds so I also buy something as soon as I see it because who knows if I’ll se it again! You lasted really long though so you should be proud! Good luck in January <3
That’s exactly what I thought! Must be a strategy of theirs. 😉
When I did a no shopping challenge earlier this year I knew I had to avoid Target completely because if I had gone in I would fail for sure.
I’m the same way with Target! I definitely need to just avoid all stores when I try again in January.
this would be so hard…especially this month!
It was tricky, which is why I couldn’t do it! But I’m going to try much harder next month 🙂
I will probably fail this miserably, but I THINK I MIGHT try it next month…definitely impossible in the month of December!
You should! We can do it together if you want 🙂
hahaha I love that you still bought stuff. You’re just like me, if i see something I absolutely love, i just HAVEEE to get it.. I’m super come january you will do fine though!
I hope so! 🙂 I’ll just be avoiding stores altogether….
Wow so close! I bet you still saved money by not shopping the previous 29 other days!
Definitely! And I love the pieces I got, so I’m definitely getting my money’s worth 🙂
I still think you rocked it!! That is not an easy challenge!
Thank you! 🙂
Please do NOT feel bad. I also failed my No Spend November. I think doing this kind of challenge around the holidays is damn near impossible for a savvy shopper. I want to try again with a clean slate in January!
You should! We should do it together so we can keep each other on track and motivated 🙂
This would be so hard for me and I live on an island with no stores. I would say once a month I get a little treat.
I feel like my challenge then would be online shopping! 🙂 And treating yourself is always a great idea
Definitely do NOT feel bad – you did GREAT! You made it 20 days, which is much better than myself! Maybe I need to challenge myself to this!
Thank you! 🙂 We should do it together in January!
Oh my gosh, I literally buy a few things every single month. Plus the cocktails and eating out. I have no savings! Although, I have no debt either! A no spend month would be practically impossible for me!
Katie <3
Having no debt is awesome! Congrats! 🙂 You should challenge yourself to do it! Maybe not a whole month though 😉
I can’t imagine a no-spend December. There is just too much going on! You did great!
Thank you so much!
This is probably the hardest challenge ever, especially around the holidays! This is one of the best times to go shopping. Props to you for going 20 days and not spending that much when you finally did break down. January will be a much easier time I think! I might even try it lol.

Thanks! And let me know if you try it in January so we can support each other through the whole thing! 🙂
“We go bankrupt one $30 purchase at a time.” that is so true… we were doing some shopping on the weekend and then suddenly looked at our bank account ‘how did that happen??’ well $40 here.. $30 there… $60 here… it adds up without even noticing it.
Exactly! That’s what I’ve been noticing a lot
Don’t feel bad! I have a hard time going even a week without shopping! lol
Haha isn’t that the truth!
You didn’t do so bad. For me, I hold of on spending for a long time and then when I do, I go crazy and spend way too much. It’s like I’m making up for lost time! LOL!
That’s exactly what I do! Haha!
Hey don’t see it as failure, you tried and did great!! Can’t wait to see how well you do in January!
Thanks so much! 🙂
