It’s time for another check in on my second 101 in 1001 list! I’m now just over 60% of the way through my list, which means I should have 60 items done, which… isn’t the case. But that’s okay! I’m still making slow but steady progress.
1 Goal Being Changed
As I’ve said before, I’m all about my 101 in 1001 list evolving with me! Because of that, I’m changing one goal this time around.
I’m taking out:
- 81. Go to the CMU vs. WMU game in Kalamazoo.
And in place of it, I’m adding:
- 81. Visit 25 new-to-me places in Kalamazoo (as of Sept. 1, 2019).
There was only one opportunity to go to the CMU vs. WMU game in Kalamazoo based on the teams’ football schedules, and it’s this year. However, it falls just two weeks before CMU’s Homecoming game, which most of our friends are going to. We decided to cancel our Central/Western Weekend plans in favor of Homecoming.
I wanted to keep the new goal in the Local category, so I decided to try out a bunch of places in Kalamazoo. I rarely leave the house or get recommendations because I work from home, so I’m taking the initiative and visiting 25 new places! This could be stores, restaurants, breweries, etc. There can technically be some overlap with the Give a Craft Beer Trail Passport (#77 on my list), which I’m fine with.
1 Goal Completed
To keep pace, I’d normally have to complete 10 goals between each check-in (and really I missed a check-in, so I should be at 20 this time around), so this… wasn’t ideal. But it’s better than no goals completed, right?!
18. Set a goal (amount and due date) for our next vacation fund.
This one was kind of thrown at us, and we’re so excited about it! Two of our good friends found round-trip tickets to Barcelona for less than $500 per person, so we jumped at it! We bought the tickets and booked a hotel room, and we’ve decided how much we want to spend outside of those two big purchases while we’re there. Now we just need to finish saving before the trip next spring!
10 Goals in Progress
3. Read 75 books.
I’ve cranked out a bunch of reading since June! I finally finished rereading all of George R. R. Martin’s books from or about the A Song of Ice and Fire series, so I’m now up to 46 books read out of 75! You can follow along on Goodreads.
4. Read (or attempt to read) and get rid of 25 books that I already own.
I’ve made progress with this goal as well! Not as much as I’d like (library books are so tempting!) but I’m getting there with 20 of 25.
16. Pay off our student loans.
We’re getting there!
42. Rebrand the InDesign Adventure Guide.
I haven’t made as much progress as I’d like on this, but that’s because a bunch of home things took precedent. I know I’ll be able to do it before this list is over, at the very least!
51. Landscape the front yard.
We cut back a bunch of our landscaping in the front, and have a plan to turn it into a wildflower garden that serves as a butterfly sanctuary. And magically, Kalamazoo has a guide for exactly how to do that in our area!
56. Organize the basement.
I rearranged a bunch of things in the basement. I’m not quite done, because there’s plenty to do in the workshop and laundry room, but the main storage room is at least organized.
80. Go to 5 local festivals.
We went to our first festival earlier this month, and we got tickets to the Michigan Mac and Cheese festival for next month! It’s nice that we’re finally close to being done with home projects (for now) so we can get out and have fun again!
81. Visit 25 new-to-me places in Kalamazoo (as of September 1, 2019).
During the festival earlier this month, we were able to explore a bunch of new places on the Kalamazoo Mall. So far we’ve visited 3 new-to-us places: Cherri’s Chocol’art, V&A Bootery, and Fuse Kitchen & Bar.
86. Experiment with 10 different cocktail recipes.
While we were in South Carolina this summer, my brother taught me how he makes mojitos, so I crossed another recipe off the list!
89. Try 10 different amber beers.
Do you know how hard it is to find amber beers? Really hard! But fall is a good time to find them. I went to the grocery store this weekend and picked out two amber beers, one of which I tried yesterday, so I’m up to 4! I should be able to get to 5 (half way!) by the end of this week thanks to the other one I picked up.
50 goals down, 51 more to go! I can do this!
Great update! I started my own 101 things did to your blog and it’s been fun yet challenging! One of my things is to create a butterfly/pollinator garden as well.
Do you have a link to the Kalamazoo guide? I looked online but didn’t see one. While I’m not in MI I’m hopeful it’ll have good tips.
Absolutely! I just found it–it’s more specific to natural landscaping instead of pollinator gardens, but it’s still helpful! https://www.kalamazoocity.org/docman/public-services/439-natural-landscaping-guide/file
