Cleaning Up Your Work Space (+ FREE Downloads!)

Cleaning Up Your Workspace (& Free Downloads!)

As a rule of thumb, organization and productivity go hand-in-hand. I find, for example, that I’m way more productive both at my full-time job and with my blog when my desk is clean.

But often my desk gets away from me, so to speak. I look around and all I can see is a mess, and suddenly I get anxious and feel like I’m being pulled in 50 different directions.

So, how does one prevent this from happening? There are a few techniques I like to use to clean up my workspace. Plus, if you scroll down, there are some free downloads just for you!

Stop Apologizing

July 24, 2015

Why is apologizing such a bad thing? I mean, it shows that we’re emotional and kind, right? Perhaps. Click through to find out why this isn't always the case.

It’s common knowledge that women apologize a lot. If you haven’t seen the Pantene commercial about how often women say sorry, I encourage you to watch it. No matter what your thoughts are on Pantene, you had to admit it’s pretty powerful.

Why is apologizing such a bad thing? I mean, it shows that we’re emotional and kind, right?

Sure, depending on the case. But apologizing for something that isn’t your fault doesn’t help when you want (and deserve…) respect.

25 Ways to Spend a Day Off

Hello and Happy Memorial Day! It’s a federal holiday in the United States, which means most of us get the day off!

Sean and I are spending the day being super productive. At least, that’s the plan. We barely get any time to just hang out or work on our own projects, because we’re either working, entertaining the puppy, or visiting family. It’s nice that we were able to visit with family for the first half of the weekend and still have personal time before going back to work.

So, what are the best ways to spend a day off, whether it’s on Memorial Day or any other day? Here are my favorite ideas.

Secrets to Staying Warm in a Freezing Office

This post contains affiliate links that I could make commission off of. All opinions are my own. Learn more.

It’s cold.

Last week, I woke up on my birthday to find a nice message from my phone: “The wind chill is -15 degrees Fahrenheit.”

No one asked you, phone.

This would be fine and dandy if I never had to leave my apartment. But alas, I have a full-time job I need to show up for and a puppy who isn’t toilet trained. Yet.

And I could (try to) survive the walk to and from the car if the office wasn’t so cold.

So, how am I staying warm when the temps inside are just as bad as the ones outside? (Okay, that may be an exaggeration, but still.)

Human Rights and Social Marketing

April 1, 2014

“Human Rights and Social Marketing” is locked Human Rights and Social Marketing

As a marketing professional, I’m always interested in new approaches companies use to get their name and product out there. I’m constantly critiquing commercials and social media posts in my head, keeping track of ideas that I like and things that I don’t.

This week while I was watching television during lunch, I noticed a commercial that promoted a strategy I really didn’t like. It has to do with human rights, so it a) is important to be and b) is relevant enough to share on Common Good.

The commercial was promoting the commitment ConAgra Foods and P&G have made to ending child hunger. They have partnered with Feed America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization, in their Child Hunger Ends Here campaign.

At this point, I’m all for this campaign. I think it’s great that large companies are bringing attention to child hunger in the United States and donating money to provide meals to children.

But wait. That’s not exactly what they’re doing.

So I guess that’s my personality now.
