For the past decade or so, I’ve *wanted* to be the girl with nicely painted nails. I blame a lot of this on Randi, who had a collection of nearly 100 Essie bottles when we lived together in college. It was so pretty, and it always seemed like such a treat to have nicely painted nails.

The only problem? Painting my nails was so inconvenient. It always took forever to dry, and even after they seemed dry, they would be susceptible to impressions for like 24 hours.
That meant if I wanted to paint my nails, I had to perfectly arrange my schedule around laundry, cooking, what I had on hand to eat (no tacos on nail polish day!), what I was wearing, when I went to the bathroom… everything had to be just right. Which meant it basically never happened. I’d seriously go far too long with incredibly chipped nails.
(“Too long” according to my own standards for myself, of course. No judgement to other people with chipped nail polish!)
That was, of course, until I found my new nail polish holy grail, which enables me to paint my nails whenever I want without having to worry too bad about wet nails.
This magical solution? Seche Vite fast-dry top coat. Randi had mentioned it to me a few times (she even wrote a blog post about it last fall!), but I was skeptical. A top coat that dries your nails in 10 minutes? Yeah, right.
But earlier this year, I finally decided to try it (thanks to some coaxing from my other beauty-obsessed friend Elsbeth!), and I have never looked back.
(For the record, this is not at all sponsored… I just love this top coat and want to share its magic with everyone! However, if you buy anything from the links in this post, I may get a small kickback at no cost to you. Thanks for supporting And Possibly Dinosaurs!)
I remember the first time I tried Seche Vite. I painted my nails, checked the time, and waited a solid 15 minutes (just in case) before touching my nails. And lo and behold… they were totally dry!
I literally messaged Elsbeth asking what dark magic was in this top coat, because it was shocking.
Yes, my nails are still a little susceptible to impressions after the 10 minutes are up. I don’t recommend going into your pockets or changing a load of laundry as soon as the 10 minutes are up.
But honestly, I’ll paint my nails on laundry day now. It takes a little bit of planning, but as long as I’m careful, my nails don’t smudge!
While I may not have a Randi-level collection of Essie nail polish yet, I’m very quickly getting there… my collection is currently at 53 shades and counting. 🙈Thanks to Seche Vite, I can easily paint my nails 2-3 times per week, so I can switch up the color as often as I want!
My current favorite shades are Blanc, Rust Worthy, Rock Your World, and Topless and Barefoot.

I’ve been really enjoying painting my nails lately, and I’m so happy this newfound hobby has a place in my life! I still need practice getting my nail polish on a little cleaner (cuticle ridges are a huge problem for me!), and I’m super interested in trying out nail art. I can’t wait to see where this passion takes me!
By the way, I just started a separate Instagram account for this newfound hobby of mine! You can find it over at @andpossiblynails!
