Sunday Scratches is where I share the little stuff that has happened throughout the week. In hockey, “scratches” are people who are on the roster but do not play in the game. On the blog, “scratches” are the things that have happened to me throughout the week that aren’t necessarily big enough to be an entire post.

Happy Sunday! Here are the scratches for the week.
My office closes for the week between Christmas and New Year’s, and we can’t roll over vacation days into a new calendar year, so a lot of my coworkers took this past week off. I was expecting it to be slow, so I could get a bunch of personal projects done… but somehow that just didn’t happen, and the week was just as busy as usual! Hopefully tomorrow is different, since only a handful of us will still be working.
On Monday evening, Sean and I drove to Grand Rapids to do a bunch of in-store returns (it felt so good to have those crossed off our list!). One of our stops was at West Elm, and now we’re daydreaming about all of the West Elm stuff we want to buy. We’ve joked that our house is basically an IKEA catalog, and we’re slowly turning it into a West Elm catalog. I don’t hate it.
After our errands, we got dinner with my parents at Thornapple Brewing Co. The four of us split two pizzas and they were both so good.
Sean and I saw two movies this week—it felt like such a luxury because we’ve been spending all of our time working on our house! We saw Dark Waters on Wednesday and Bombshell on Thursday. Both were really good (and Dark Waters was based in Cincinnati, so that was fun!), but also really made us frustrated with society. I highly recommend both.
(Also, that means I’ve crossed off an item on my December Goals list—see two full movies in theatres!)
I started setting up my 2020 Passion Planner this week! Stay tuned for a post on how I’m planning to use the regular Passion Planner in conjunction with my Passion Planner Daily. I’m ready for 2020 but also making sure I slow down and enjoy the next week without wishing time away.
Yesterday we spent all day working on our porch some more… the project that will never end! I’m pretty sure we’ve been saying “we’re so close to being done” for the past… 4 months. Sean finished putting up the last row of cedar shakes inside, and I primed all of the new shakes with two coats of primer. The first coat legitimately took me four hours… for a very small amount of space. We’ve agreed that when we look for a house in the future, cedar shakes are a total dealbreaker.
We’re planning to paint the porch light grey to match the rest of our house, but I’m hoping to wait until after Christmas to tackle that. I’ve got a few days off this week and next, so maybe I’ll feel motivated enough to finish it up. We’ll see.
Today we’re planning on meal planning, and meal prepping if we have enough energy! We’re hosting my family for Christmas Day, so we’ve got some grocery shopping to do, in addition to getting food ready for the rest of the week. Wish us luck!
