One Dress October

One Dress October

One Dress October has been something I’ve wanted to participate in since I heard about it a few years ago. However, I either wasn’t in a position to do so (like when I didn’t have my own washer or dryer) or I just felt too lazy to try it out.

This year I decided I was going to do it.

So, what is One Dress October? Just as the name implies, you only wear one dress for the entire month of October.

Why would anyone subject themselves to this? The main idea is to learn how to utilize everything in your closet and how to accessorize differently. I found it especially helpful because I kept grabbing for the same outfits over and over again.

By limiting myself, I forced myself to get more creative.

While the point is to wear the same dress for all 31 days, but I had to make some reservations. It was a busy month at work, and we had a big tailgate-themed event at work, so it wouldn’t have been appropriate to wear a dress every single day. Therefore, I decided it would only be applicable on non-casual work days.

Originally, this meant I would wear the dress every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for the month of October (we have $5 jeans days every Wednesday, with the donations going to local charities), which would have totaled 13 days in the same dress.

However, some things came up (like the entire week when I wore jeans to work because I had to set up for the aforementioned tailgate-themed event), so it only ended up totaling 10 days in the same dress.

That being said, I thoroughly loved the experience. Here’s a rundown of how it went.

#30DaysNoShopping

30 Days, No Shopping

It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with Stylebook.

So I was pretty excited when they emailed me to let me know about their new campaign, #30DaysNoShopping.

It started when they interviewed Maria Von Losch about her 365-day no shopping challenge.

The premise of the challenge is to go a certain amount of time without shopping. You can then use an organization tool like Stylebook to keep your outfits fresh.

Rather than heading to the store for something new, you learn to utilize what you already have.

There’s an App for That: Stylebook v. Closet+

There's an App for That: Stylebook vs. Closet+

This post contains affiliate links that I could make commission off of. All opinions are my own. Learn more.

Note (July 7, 2014): After discovering more features of Stylebook, the review has been updated at the bottom.

A while back I downloaded an iPhone app to help keep my closet organized and, most importantly, make sure I’m getting my money’s worth out of my clothes. I cataloged a good portion of my closet, but then got frustrated and lost interest, so I deleted it. When Randi did a review of a similar app, I decided to try again and decide which one is the best for me.

I present to you: Stylebook v. Closet+.

This is going to be a pretty long post, so bare with me, but I want to give you as much information as possible. I’ll break it down into sections and compare and contrast the apps within each section. I’ll include the app that I think wins each section as well. Keep in mind, though, that different features are important to different people, so the one that worked best for me might not be the one that works best for you!

So I guess that’s my personality now.
