It’s time for the penultimate check-in on my 101 in 1001: Take 2 list! In just about 100 more days, I’ll wrap up this list and launch a new one. 😱 Crazy how time flies!
If you’re not familiar, 101 in 1001 is a list of 101 things I’d like to do in the next 1001 days (or approximately 2.75 years). I’m currently working on my second 101 in 1001, which started in January of 2018 and will wrap up this coming October.
Now that we’re 90% of the way through, I’ve decided not to change any more of my goals. Normally I allow for changes, especially when I have big life changes like moving from Cincinnati to Kalamazoo. But with a pandemic going on, it feels like cheating, because I’d probably change 30% of my list to things I could do in the next 100 days. Instead, I’ve started working on my third 101 in 1001 list, so all of my new ideas are going into that! Plus, I’ll carry over whatever I don’t finish.
Speaking of finishing items, here’s what I’ve completed since my last check-in!
5 Goals Completed
5 more goals completed puts me at 66! Not as far as I’d like to be by this time, but still way better than my first 101 in 1001 list!
3. Read 75 books
Finally! This one took almost the entire 1001 days—and to be honest, I probably would have done this whether or not it was on my list. 75 books over the course of (roughly) 3 years is my normal reading pace. Lesson learned for next time! I need reading goals that are more specific instead of just “read your usual amount of books over the course of this timeframe.” (And to be honest, on my third list, reading will have its own section.)
51. Landscape the front yard.
I’m so excited about this. We were planning to do something with our landscaping last year, but then the porch happened. It was harder than I would have liked this year thanks to the pandemic, but just ripping up a bunch of ground cover did wonders for the front of the house. I wish I had taken a before photo! We didn’t realize that the ground cover had been choking out the rosebush (some of the vines were literally wrapped around the base of the rosebush) and once we ripped it out, the roses flourished. We also ripped out two big bushes and replaced one of them with a redbud tree that will have pink flowers in the spring!
84. Teach Stanley a new trick.
This one isn’t necessarily a “trick” but I’m counting it! Earlier this spring we got a doggy door to install on the porch. It can take dogs a long time to learn how to use a doggy door (if they ever decide to use it!), but Stanley took to it in a matter of minutes! We were very excited. He uses it all the time; we can just leave the french doors open in the summer and he’ll run outside to go to the bathroom and then come back inside without our help. 🙌🏻
86. Experiment with 10 different cocktail recipes.
This one was really fun, and I’m definitely bringing a version of it to my next 101 in 1001 list! I’ve always enjoyed cocktails, but I don’t necessarily know what a lot of them are or how to make them, so I made it my mission to make 10 different recipes. Thanks to Paul Feig’s quarantine happy hour, I was able to round off the list!
87. Brew our own beer.
Our big quarantine hobby: we started brewing beer! So far we’ve finished four different beers, and we have another three going in the basement!
3 Goals in Progress
Still making progress! Slowly but surely I’m chipping away at these three.
16. Pay off our student loans.
I’m not super confident we’ll have them paid off by October, but we’ll be really close.
25. Complete Couch to 10k.
I’m really proud of myself for this one! Couch to 10k is hard, especially with the summer heat and humidity. I’m technically a day behind because I had to repeat a day, but I’ve gone out 3 times per week for the past 8 weeks. Today is the start of week 9 out of 14!
38. Write 5 product review posts with affiliate links in an effort to make more passive income.
I didn’t quite expect this one to be so hard, but I’m making progress with 4/5 posts written! And I have plans for at least two more, so I should be good to cross this one off very soon.
Wish me luck for the last 100 days of the challenge!
